Why KJ Loves Spiced Apple Butter Bread
What’s not to love about this bread? It’s like the Fall version of banana bread! Loaded full of perfectly spiced apple flavor – this bread is moist and oh-so delicious. I love baking this bread in the oven during the Fall as it makes your house smell like a spiced apple candle…but better because you can eat it haha!
All About Apple Butter
It’s apple season, and I am here for it!
One of my favorite apple ingredients is apple butter. It takes some of the best fall flavors and simmers them down into one delicious, spiced spread.
What is apple butter?
Apple butter is like an apple sauce that is cooked low and slow until the sugars caramelize and the mixture turns a deep, amber color. It’s usually flavored with warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
Why does the recipe use apple butter?
The apple butter provides a concentrated flavor that gives this bread its spiced apple notes and the right, moist consistency.
Where can I buy apple butter?
I like to support local orchards that sell it during the fall! I usually use this opportunity to stock up on extra jars for the rest of the year. Plus, it’s a great chance to enjoy hot apple cider donuts and fresh bags of apples.
Otherwise, many grocery stores carry it, or you can make your own from scratch! Half Baked Harvest has a great recipe.
Can I substitute applesauce?
Applesauce is unspiced and more liquidy. It won’t produce the delicious, flavorful results you’ll get with apple butter.
The Supporting Ingredients
We all know apple butter is the star of the show here. But several key ingredients make this tasty Fall recipe possible.
Butter
Melted butter keeps the spiced apple bread moist and fluffy.
Pantry items
Sugar, salt, and baking powder
Cinnamon
…because I always love an extra note of cinnamon in my apple bread.
Serving up Fall in a slice
Eat it any time.
Serve for breakfast, brunch, or a snack! Spiced apple butter bread also pairs deliciously with soup.
Top it off.
I love to serve the bread slightly warm and smeared with some softened butter, additional apple butter, or a drizzle of honey.
Make it a dessert.
The sweetness of this bread makes it perfect as a dessert. Serve warm slices of the spiced apple butter bread with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon!
Go the extra mile and serve with a spoonful of warm apple pie filling as well—an ultimate apple dessert!
Storing Spiced Apple Butter Bread
(On the off-chance you have any left!)
Once the bread is cooled, store it in a plastic container or securely covered in plastic wrap to keep it fresh. No need to refrigerate it.
I like to store slices in plastic sandwich baggies for a quick and easy breakfast option on the go!

Ingredients
- 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, melted
- 1 cup apple butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, apple butter, eggs and vanilla extract until smooth. Add in the sugar, flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon and mix until completely combined and a batter has formed.
- Spray and line a standard bread loaf pan with cooking spray and parchment paper. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50-55 minutes, or until golden brown on the top and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before turning it out onto a cooling rack to cool completely. You can serve the bread warm, or let it cool completely before storing it in an air-tight container. I recommend storing cooled slices in their own individual plastic baggies for an easy grab-and-go breakfast option. Enjoy!

This bread is very good! The apple butter flavor really comes through. I baked it in an 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 loaf pan and it was done at 48 minutes. I am already planning on making it again, possibly with some sugar and nuts sprinkled on top. Thanks for an excellent recipe!
