What Cut of Pork to Use

First thing’s first for this recipe, picking out a pork roast! For this recipe, there are a couple options that work, but I highly recommend the boneless pork shoulder butt. It has the perfect amount of fat for flavor and decadence. Plus, it doesn’t have a bone! A bone-in pork butt can also be used, but may require more cook time and then the removal of the bone at the end.

Boneless pork shoulder butts do come with cooking twine wrapped around it, so it will need to be removed prior to putting into the slow cooker. Personally, I think it is easier to remove it before cooking rather than afterwards.

Homemade Spice Mix

Since this recipe is has an ingredient that is short and sweet, this homemade spice mix brings the pork to life! It adds wonderful flavor all while not being too overwhelming. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Chili powder
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Cumin
  • Salt

I bet most of these items are already in your cupboards! Perfect, right? Simply mix all the spices together and rub the pork butt down to completely cover it. While the pork is cooking away in the slow cooker, the spices come to life and infuse the pork butt with loads of flavor. Makes it irresistibly good and your house smell amazing!

How to Serve

Traditionally speaking, pulled pork is perfect for, well, pulled pork sandwiches haha! And this slow cooker pulled pork is no different. Layer on your favorite bbq sauce, a couple slices of pickles and dig in! Here’s some other ways to serve this slow cooker pulled pork:

  • Pulled pork sandwiches
  • Tacos
  • Burrito bowls or burritos
  • Loaded baked potato topping
  • Pizza topping
  • As is! Serve with sides such as Creamy Baked Mac n Cheese

This recipe is great for meal prepping or leftovers. It re-heats wonderfully! It can also be made in advance, stored in the cooking juices (just keep it all in the slow cooker) and re-heat the day of!
