What Makes this Chocolate Pudding “Simple?”

This chocolate pudding is simple because it is thickened by corn starch! Instead of using egg yolks or having to be concerned about getting the pudding a certain temperature, all you have to do is whisk together milk, sugar and corn starch over low heat until thick. See? No tricks around here, just treats!

How to Make Simple Chocolate Pudding

This Simple Chocolate Pudding is so simply good, that you won’t believe how easy it is to make! You don’t have to worry about cooking egg yolks or anything with this pudding, becuase it is hassle free!

This pudding gets it’s decadently creamy texture by whisking together milk, sugar and cornstarch over low heat until it’s thickend. Semi-sweet chocolate is then whisked in with some butter and vanilla extract to create a glossy, chocolatey pudding.

How to Serve Simple Chocolate Pudding

After you finish whisking the pudding together on the stovetop, you can serve it warm or you can refrigerate it and serve it cold! I love using these little glasses to pour my pudding into before refrigerating. Either way you serve it, you gotta have some whipped cream! And chocolate shavings…

I love how this Simple Chocolate Pudding can be a fun afternoon treat, weeknight dessert or even fancied up for a date-night dinner! How cute would these little chocolate pudding glasses be for a gathering or party?

Simple Chocolate Pudding is one of those desserts where you just want to make again and again. It’s a timeless treat!

Description

Simple Chocolate Pudding is a chocolate dessert so good that you won’t be able to resist it! All you need is a few simple ingredients to make this pudding: milk, corn starch, semi-sweet chocolate, butter and vanilla extract. Whip up a quick batch of this classically good chocolate pudding and get ready for a delicious treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate baking bar, such as Ghiradelli, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Additional whipped cream and chocolate shavings for serving if desired

Instructions

  1. Add the sugar, corn starch and salt together in a medium-sized saucepan. Whisk together until clump-free. Slowly whisk in the milk to avoid clumps until completely combined.
  2. Put the saucepan over low heat and allow it to slowly come to a low simmer, whisking occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. Once it just starts to bubble and has thickened (about 5-8 minutes), turn off the heat and whisk in the chocolate, vanilla and butter until smooth.
  3. Serve the chocolate pudding warm, or pour into individual glasses/bowls and refrigerate for a couple hours until set. Either way, serve with additional whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

  • Whole or 2% milk work great for this recipe.
  • If you want a more intense chocolate flavor, try using dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate!
  • You can serve this pudding warm or cold. It also keeps well in the refrigerator!
