Imagine your hands wrapped around a warm mug of velvety hot cocoa with marshmallows floating on top. Then take all those sights, smells, and flavors and put them in a cookie!

Hot Cocoa Cookies are loaded with all the cozy flavors of hot cocoa. A rich cookie base is studded with melted chocolate chips and gooey mini marshmallows. Dust a little cocoa over the top for some holiday magic.

Hot cocoa cookies are fantastic for cold-weather baking, midnight treats, or sharing with family and friends.

It’s important to note: This is not your ordinary chocolate cookie. You can have those any old time of the year. This hot cocoa cookie recipe actually tastes like a cup of hot cocoa—in cookie form.

Snuggle up on the couch with your favorite holiday movie, a plate of these delicious cookies, and a mug of steaming hot cocoa. ‘Tis the season to splurge.

  • 2 sticks (16 tablespoons) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 oz chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat together the butter, sugar and brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about a couple minutes. Reduce the speed to low and add in one egg at time, making sure to wipe down the sides of the bowl in between each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  2. With the mixer speed on low, mix in the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt until combined and a dough has formed. Add in the chocolate chips and mix until just combined. Use a tablespoon-sized scoop to scoop the cookie dough into balls onto a non-greased baking sheet, placing each one a couple inches apart.
  3. Bake for 5 minutes, remove the cookies from the oven and gently press 3-4 mini marshmallows into the top of each cookie. Return the cookies to the oven and bake for another 5-6 minutes or until the cookies have set and are cooked through. Allow the cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheet for several minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
