Honey Mustard Glaze

Ok, this honey Dijon mustard glaze is insane. It’s so simple and flavorful that it will become a staple in your house. Here’s what you need.

Whole-Grain Dijon Mustard

Don’t be scared off by the whole-grain mustard! It has a great mild flavor. I found mine at Trader Joe’s! If you can’t find whole-grain mustard, you can use regular Dijon (although you’ll end up with a different flavor profile).

Honey

This is one of the main ingredients, so splurge for a good local honey if you can find it! Either way, the sweetness really complements the tang of the mustard.

Seasoned Salt

Don’t skip this! Regular salt is good, but seasoned salt takes this to the next level.

Garlic

Fresh, minced garlic is the best. But if you need pre-minced garlic to save on time, go for it!

Whisk all the ingredients and spoon over the chicken thighs or chicken breasts before baking. So stickily good.

Choose your chicken!

This honey baked Dijon chicken recipe is great with whichever cut of meat you like best: chicken breasts, chicken thighs, or even chicken tenders. Just make sure you choose boneless skinless chicken. Way easier.

Each cut of chicken will bake at a slightly different rate, so keep a close watch on them near the end and make sure all the pieces of chicken reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees in the thickest spots.

Chicken tenders will cook the fastest, followed by chicken breasts. Chicken thighs usually take the longest to be done.

Tip For Caramelized, Moist Chicken

Want your chicken to be super moist, but also get that caramelized, honey-glazed exterior?

The trick here is foil. For the first part of the baking process, tent the honey Dijon chicken in foil to trap steam and moisture around it. This also helps the chicken bake more easily.

Then, later on, you’ll remove the foil to allow the chicken to brown into sticky, caramelized goodness.

How To Serve Honey Dijon Chicken

This recipe is ultra-flexible, and the leftovers taste great in a variety of ways.

Serve with sides.

Serve with roasted potatoes or mashed potatoes and some easy roasted asparagus for a complete meal. And don’t forget dessert (I recommend Brown Butter Rice Krispies if you want to keep things easy)!

Mix it up.

Create a honey Dijon chicken salad, sandwich, or wrap. You could even make brown rice or quinoa bowls. Pair with your favorite veggies for a healthy, quick meal.

Honey Mustard Baked Chicken FAQ

Can I use chicken thighs?

Yes, you can use any boneless, skinless cut of chicken you prefer. Chicken thighs will take a little bit longer to cook, so make sure you plan for a little extra time in the oven.

Can I use a different type of mustard?

For this baked chicken recipe, I recommend whole-grain Dijon mustard. If you don’t have it on hand, regular Dijon mustard is the next best option.

How do I get moist chicken?

By using foil for the first part of the baking process, you’ll trap the moisture and juices in the chicken. This is a great trick for getting moist chicken every time!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2–3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs
  • 1/3 cup whole grain Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
