Gluten-Free Peach Cobbler

  • By KJ

This peach cobbler is dairy-free and gluten-free — but tastes just as good as the classic version.

Juicy, ripe peaches are nestled beneath a warm, soft crust, with a hint of almond extract. Add a scoop of your favorite dairy-free vanilla ice cream on the fluffy topping, and enjoy a bit of melty, gooey goodness.

What I love about this recipe (besides its deliciousness, of course) is how flexible it is. Use fresh or frozen peaches. Use regular flour or gluten-free. Dairy or non-dairy milk. You can even choose between coconut sugar and brown sugar.

Gluten-Free Peach Cobbler

Peaches

Peach season is in full swing and my kitchen is buzzing with peachy creations. It’s time to use up all those deliciously ripe peaches with classic desserts like peach cobbler, peach crisp, and peach cobbler cookie bars.

I prefer slightly ripe yellow peaches for this cobbler recipe, but don’t stress if they’re not perfectly ripe. That’s the beauty of peach cobbler — whether your peaches are a tad firm or slightly past their prime, they’ll work beautifully.

I like to use peaches with the peel on, but you can remove the peels if you prefer!

It’s the ideal recipe for using up your entire peach haul (or just a good excuse to go out and get more peaches!).

Peach Cobbler Ingredients

For the peach filling:

  • Peaches (sliced)
  • Brown Sugar (or Coconut Sugar)
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Cinnamon
  • Maple Syrup

For the cobbler topping:

  • Gluten-free flour
  • Brown Sugar (or Coconut Sugar)
  • Egg
  • Coconut Oil (melted)
  • Milk (choose your favorite — I use almond milk or oat milk)
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Almond Extract
  • Cinnamon

How To Make Peach Cobbler

1

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

2

Prepare the filling.

In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches, brown sugar (or coconut sugar), vanilla extract, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Mix well.

Transfer the filling mixture to a 3 ½ quart baking dish or a 9×13 inch pan.

3

Make the cobbler topping.

In a separate bowl, mix gluten-free flour, brown sugar (or coconut sugar), egg, melted coconut oil, your choice of milk (almond or oat milk works well), vanilla extract, almond extract, and cinnamon.

4

Dollop the topping over the filling.

Gently spoon the topping mixture over the peach filling. Swirl it slightly, but don’t worry about covering every spot — gaps are part of a cobbler’s charm.

5

Bake the peach cobbler.

Place your cobbler in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Let cool slightly before serving. Top with your favorite ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!

To store, cover the cobbler and keep it in the fridge for up to a few days. (But I guarantee it probably won’t last that long!)

6

Wash the dishes. How sad.

Peach Cobbler FAQs

Can I peel the skin off the peaches?

Yes, you can! To peel peaches, first cut a small “x” on the bottom of each fruit. Bring a pot of water to a boil and prepare an ice bath nearby. Blanch the peaches in the boiling water for 30-60 seconds, then immediately transfer them to the ice bath. Once cooled, the skin should slip off easily, starting from the “x” mark.

Can I use frozen peaches?

Yes, you can use frozen peaches. Defrost them the night before and drain the juice for the best results.

Can I use canned peaches?

I’d recommend fresh or frozen peaches for this recipe. The canned peaches just won’t yield the same results!

Is this a vegan peach cobbler recipe?

No, this is not a vegan peach cobbler, since it uses an egg. You could try a flaxseed egg, but we haven’t tested it out.

What's the difference between a peach crumble and a peach cobbler?

A peach cobbler has a soft, biscuit-like topping that’s dropped onto the fruit filling. (It looks sort of like a cobbled road when it’s baked!) A peach crumble, on the other hand, features a crumbly streusel-like topping made of flour, sugar, and butter, which becomes crisp and crunchy when baked.

What is cobbler crust made of?

Cobbler crust is usually a biscuit-like type of crust, made with baking staples including flour, sugar, and milk. This is a dairy-free, gluten-free cobbler crust, which uses a gluten-free flour blend and your choice of dairy-free milk.

Can I use dairy for this recipe?

Yes, you can make the cobbler crust with cow’s milk if you prefer!
