Banana bread is a classic in our household. Have a few bananas that are ripe on the counter? Perfect! This recipe is calling your name! It’s basically banana bread elevated to the next level. Plus, can you ever go wrong when cream cheese frosting is involved? I think not.

Ingredients You Need for Frosted Banana Bars

Not only are these Frosted Banana Bars delicious, but they only require a few simple ingredients that you most likely already have on hand!

Here is what you will need:

  • Ripe bananas
  • Vegetable oil
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Let’s get into making them:

Making Banana Bars:

When it comes to actually whipping all the ingredients together for this recipe, we’re keeping it simple! I’m talking one bowl – one mess. That’s my kind of recipe!

Start off by mashing the ripe bananas in the bottom of a large bowl. I like to just use a fork for this process. Whisk in the veggie oil, eggs and vanilla and you have your wet base ready to go.

Next, mix in the sugar, flour, baking soda and salt. Instead of using a loaf pan for a classic banana bread, you will use a 9×9 baking pan – like you are making brownies. Here’s the pan I use!

While the banana bars are baking, whip up the frosting! All you have to do is cream together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until velvety smooth.

Finally, once the banana bars are completely cooled, frost the tops and dig in!

Frosted Banana Bars: Breakfast or Dessert?

One of the most fun parts about these banana bars is deciding for yourself if they are breakfast or dessert. How fun is that?! They could really go either way!

For me, I love to dig into one of these with my morning coffee, or treat myself to a delicious mid-day snack.

How would you serve these frosted banana bars?! 🙂

Whether you serve these for breakfast, brunch, mid-day snacks, or dessert, these Frosted Banana Bars are perfect for any occassion! Whip up a batch and get baking!

Ingredients

Scale

For the banana bars:

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

For the frosting:

  • 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

For the banana bars:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mash the bananas together with a fork until smooth. Whisk in the vegetable oil, eggs and vanilla extract.
  2. Add in the sugar, flour, baking soda and salt and whisk until combined. Pour into a greased 9×9 baking pan.
  3. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.

For the frosting:

  1. In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese on medium speed until creamy, about a minute. Add in one cup of powdered sugar at a time until completely combined and smooth.
  2. Evenly frost the banana bars once they have cooled completely. Cut into 9 equal-sized bars. Enjoy!

Notes
