How did I not know this existed in Lincoln? I have no idea, but it is a blast! Big shout out to Haley for getting me out of my comfort zone with a Friday night downtown for the two of us. It was so much fun to stroll around to all the different art galleries and holes in the wall that you normally drive on past. We started out our night eating some delicious flatbreads on the stairs of the Sheldon Art Gallery, and then spent 5 minutes in there before they closed. The Sheldon is so beautiful and spacious inside it is definitely worth it. Even though I got in trouble for taking my water bottle in…But they close the earliest (7pm) so we decided it probably would’ve been wiser to eat after we toured through The Sheldon.
We continued on through the Gallery 9 which was jammed packed with people, but it’s all the fun in the experience! Hop across the street and you have Noyes Art Gallery with some pretty impressive stuff. Our last stop was the Rocketship Art Gallery before ending the night with great conversations over coffee and smoothies. The Rocketship is most definitely worth the walk. Who would have thought of dipping flowers in liquid nitrogen and smashing them into a million little pieces while your camera catches it all? This guy pushes the limit with his art and it shows on his canvases.
It was just such a fun little experience and a great way to spend a Friday night. Most of the galleries did offer little hors d’oeuvres and wine to sip on as you graciously walk through the gallery. People tend to walk in super slow motion speed at these things – it’s pretty amusing once you notice how slowly you are taking your steps so that you don’t plow over the person in front of you. I’m looking forward to all the other First Friday’s ahead of us. Plus, some of the galleries were talking of serving egg nog for December. I’m in.
Here’s the link for a full list of particpating galleries. We definitely didn’t hit all of them!
