Cranberry Apple Crumble Ingredients

For the Filling:

Granny Smith apples

Their tartness balances perfectly with the sweet brown sugar. Make sure to peel and slice them evenly for the best texture.

Dried cranberries

These add a burst of tartness and beautiful color to the filling.

Brown sugar

The molasses in brown sugar adds depth and helps create a caramelized sauce.

Cinnamon & Salt

Classic warm spices make this dessert extra cozy.

Vanilla extract

Just a splash brings out all the other flavors.

For the Crumble Topping:

Coconut oil (melted)

Coconut oil creates a perfectly crispy topping while keeping the dessert dairy-free. You can substitute melted butter if you prefer.

Flour

Use regular all-purpose flour or your favorite gluten-free flour blend.

Brown sugar

More sweet, caramel goodness!

Almond extract

This secret ingredient adds a subtle sugar cookie flavor that takes the crumble to the next level.

Cinnamon

Because you can never have too much cinnamon in a fall dessert.

How To Make Cranberry Apple Crumble

1

 Prep the filling.

Peel and slice your Granny Smith apples into even pieces, about 1/4 inch thick. Add them to a large bowl along with the dried cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir until all the fruit is evenly coated.

2

Transfer to your baking dish

Pour the cran-apple filling mixture into a 3 ½ quart baking dish. Spread it into an even layer.

3

Make the crumble

In a separate bowl, combine the melted coconut oil, flour, brown sugar, almond extract, and cinnamon. Mix until you get a loose, crumbly texture. You should be able to squeeze it into clumps with your fingers.

4

Top it off

Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over your fruit filling.

5

Bake.

Pop your dish into the preheated 350°F oven. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and you can see the fruit filling bubbling around the edges.

6

Enjoy à la mode!

Let the crumble cool for just a few minutes (we’re going for warm, not tongue-scorching!). Scoop into bowls and top with vanilla ice cream. Watch it melt into all those nooks and crannies. Pure dessert bliss! 🍎 🍨

FAQs

What's the difference between apple cobbler and apple crumble?

A cobbler has a biscuit-like topping, while a crumble is topped with a crispy mixture of flour, sugar, and butter or oil. Both are delicious, but crumbles are usually easier to make!

What makes a good crumble topping?

The secret is in getting the right texture. You want the topping loose enough to create crispy bits, but still clumping when squeezed. Pro tip: don’t pack it down when adding it to your fruit — those loose pieces make the best crunchy texture!

Why make a crumble instead of a pie?

Crumbles are so much more forgiving than pies. No fussy crust to worry about. Just toss together your filling, mix up the topping, and bake. Perfect for when you need dessert ASAP!

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! Assemble the crumble and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking. Or bake it ahead and reheat individual portions in the microwave.

Can I use fresh cranberries?

Nope, this recipe is designed for dried cranberries!.

What's the best way to reheat leftovers?

Individual portions reheat beautifully in the microwave. For larger amounts, cover with foil and warm in a 350°F oven until heated through.

How do I store leftover apple cranberry crumble?

Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
