What is Puppy Chow?

Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies – whichever you call it, it is delicious!

Essentially, Puppy Chow is a fun dessert made from rice cereal, melted chocolate, peanut butter and a generous amount of powdered sugar to cover each piece.

The result: a dessert so chocolatey, nutty, crunchy and sweet that you won’t mind the powdered sugar covering your fingers! Definitely has a powdered sugar donut effect.

How to Get the Cookies & Cream Flavor

Now, since we have built our Puppy Chow base, it’s time to fill in with the cookies & cream! Talk about a treat that will fill anyone’s sweet tooth craving!

The best way: Oreos! Pull that Oreo package open and get to smashing. I like to have a variety of sizes of pieces to keep it fun. You can never go wrong with finding a whole Oreo, either! I mean, I wouldn’t be upset about it…

If you are a Puppy Chow fan, then this Cookies & Cream Puppy Chow takes it to a whole other level! You won’t be able to keep your hands out of the bowl! Perfect for a fun dessert to make with family or friends, serve a crowd, game night or just to have an addicting little dessert on hand.

Description

Cookies & Cream Puppy Chow is a classic dessert with a fun twist! Rice cereal is mixed together with melted chocolate and peanut butter for the puppy chow base. Then crushed Oreos are added in for the cookies & cream effect! Perfectly covered in powdered sugar, each morsel is scrumptiously delicious!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz rice cereal
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 4 cups crushed Oreo cookies
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Microwave the peanut butter and chocolate chips together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second increments until smooth and melted. About 1 minute total. Stir to combine.
  2. Add half of the rice cereal into a large bowl. Pour half of the melted peanut butter and chocolate over the top along with a cup of crushed Oreo cookies. Add in the remaining rice cereal, melted chocolate and peanut butter and another 1 cup of crushed Oreos.
  3. Gently stir to coat all the pieces with the chocolate and peanut butter. Refrigerate for 20-30 minutes, or until the chocolate has set.
  4. Add the powdered sugar on top and the remaining 2 cups of Oreo pieces and gently stir to coat the Puppy Chow with the powdered sugar. If more powdered sugar is needed, add in an additional 1/2 cup at a time until coated. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If you need more powdered sugar, add it in 1/2 cup increments until the pieces are coated.
  • Be careful to not over-mix the puppy chow as you want to keep the pieces as whole as you can.
  • Prep Time: 45 minutes
