Chicken Parmesan Casserole

Chicken Parmesan Casserole combines all the wonderful flavors of a classic chicken parmesan in one, simple dish! Pasta is tossed together with marinara sauce, then topped with crispy chicken tenders and mozzarella cheese. Baked until perfectly bubbly, this casserole comes to the table for an easy-serve, delicious dinner!

Let’s Talk Pasta

When it comes to choosing which pasta shape to use for this recipe, there are many options! Have fun with it, or choose your favorite pasta shape. Keep in mind that a pasta that is able to hold sauce works best. Here are some options:

  • Rigatoni
  • Shells
  • Penne
  • Ziti 
  • Elbows

Boil the pasta until just before al dente. Meaning, we don’t want the pasta cooked all the way through. The reason being for this is that the pasta will also be baked in the marinara sauce. Over-boiling the pasta and then baking it will result in a mushy outcome. Nobody wants that! Folding the pasta into a marinara sauce keeps it nice and moist while it bakes.

Diving a serving spoon into all the different layers of this casserole is just dreamy. First, the gooey, melted mozzarella cheese, then the crispy chicken tenders down to the saucy noodles.

Description

Chicken Parmesan Casserole combines all the wonderful flavors of a classic chicken parmesan in one, simple dish! Pasta is tossed together with marinara sauce, then topped with crispy chicken tenders and mozzarella cheese. Baked until perfectly bubbly, this casserole comes to the table for an easy-serve, delicious dinner!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz rigatoni pasta
  • 24 oz pasta sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 16 oz Smart Chicken Panko Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Bring water to boil in a large pot. Add in the pasta and cook according to package instructions until just before al dente. Meaning not cooking all the way through so that the pasta doesn’t get mushy when baking. Drain.
  2. Pour the pasta sauce into the noodles and gently toss to coat. Pour the pasta into a 9×13 baking dish. Evenly top the prepared pasta with the Smart Chicken Panko Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders. Bake for about 10-12 minutes.
  3. Evenly top the casserole with the shredded cheese and bake for another 5-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Use the broiler on high for a couple minutes to get the cheese browned if desired.
  4. Garnish with fresh basil, serve with Parmesan cheese and enjoy!

Notes

  • No need to defrost the chicken tenders before using – take them straight out of the freezer!
