Easy Summer Sips

If you’re looking for a fun way to jazz up your margaritas this summer, a cherry lime cocktail is an easy way to make a splash.

We’re keeping this recipe super simple. No triple sec, special simple syrups, or cherry-flavored alcohol (you know…the kind that you use once, and then let sit on your shelf for months).

All you need is three ingredients plus ice. That’s it!

This cherry limeade drink is a great option if you also want to serve an alcohol-free variation. Use non-alcoholic tequila or substitute lemon-lime soda for a delightful mocktail.

Cherry Limeade Margarita Ingredients

Limeade

While you could try making your own, I recommend grabbing some pre-made limeade from the grocery store. There are three different aisles where you might find it: in the unrefrigerated juice section, in the refrigerated juice section, or as frozen concentrate next to frozen orange juice concentrate.

Grenadine

While (surprisingly) grenadine isn’t actually made with cherries, it has that classic cherry flavor. If you want your drink a little less sweet, grab some tart cherry juice instead.

Tequila

Silver or blanco tequila will give you the best results for this cocktail recipe, as gold tequila can compete with the cherry/lime flavor. But any type of tequila will work! You can even use non-alcoholic tequila for a margarita mocktail.

Lemon-Lime Soda (optional)

For a sparkling twist, top your drink off with some lemon-lime soda. It’s a perfect way to bring that classic fizz of a cherry limeade.

How To Make Cherry Limeade Margaritas (on the rocks)

1

Pour ingredients.

Rim your glass with salt (or sugar). Add the limeade, grenadine, and tequila to the glass with ice and stir.

2

Top it off. (optional)

Top off your glass with a splash of lemon-lime soda.

3

Sip away!

Enjoy your boozy cherry limeade. Cheers!

4

Wash the dishes. How sad.

Cherry Lime Margarita FAQ

How do I make the drink less sweet?

For a more tart flavor, use tart cherry juice instead of the grenadine.

What kind of tequila should I use?

For a cherry limeade margarita, silver tequila, also known as blanco, is the ideal choice because of its clean and crisp flavor. It complements the tart limeade and sweet cherry grenadine without overpowering them.

Does this cocktail recipe require triple sec?

No, you don’t need triple sec for this margarita recipe!

How do you rim a margarita glass with salt or sugar?

To rim a glass with sugar or salt, first rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge, then dip it into a shallow plate of salt or sugar. Rotate the glass gently in the salt or sugar to coat the rim.
