How to Make Cheesy Garlic Bread
Cheesy Garlic Bread is one of those things that is just irresistible! Since it’s so easy to eat, then it needs to be easy to make too! Let’s break it down:
- Slice the bread loaf in half length-wise
- Spread with a homemade garlic herb butter
- Load with freshly shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses
- Bake until perfectly bubbly and golden brown
- DIG IN
I love that this recipe is simple ingredients coming together in a simple way to create a scrumptious outcome. Can you ever go wrong with cheesy garlic bread? I think not!
Let’s Talk Cheese
Since cheese is one of the main ingredients of this recipe, we need to talk about it! For the ultimate gooey, melty, cheesy effect, freshly shredded cheese is the best option. Trust me, grating a couple blocks of cheese is SO worth it! Pre-shredded cheese tends to have other ingredients added to keep the cheese from sticking together, which can affect the melting factor of the cheese. But, that doesn’t mean that it won’t work if that’s what you have on hand!
For this recipe, I would choose freshly grated cheese vs. pre-shredded cheese for the best gooey cheese results. Freshly grated mozzarella and mild cheddar combine together to make this garlic bread sing!
Bake up this Cheesy Garlic Bread for the perfect appetizer or side dish. Imagine pulling a slice of this cheese bread apart and dunking it your plate of spaghetti or alfredo. The possibilities are endless! A crowd favorite that is easy to make and even easier to eat. Dig in!

Cheesy Garlic Bread is a classic favorite. Italian bread loaded full of fresh herbs, garlic and loads of cheese to make it extra gooey and cheesy in all the right ways. Get the ultimate cheese pull with a slice of this Cheesy Garlic Bread!
Ingredients
- 1 loaf Italian or French bread, cut in half lengthwise
- 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, softened
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped
- 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese, freshly grated
- 4 oz mild cheddar cheese, freshly grated
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In a small bowl, combine the butter, parsley, chives, garlic and salt until smooth. Arrange the two bread slices on a baking sheet, insides facing up. Evenly spread the butter mixture on the two halves.
- Toss the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese together and evenly spread across the two bread halves.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Broil for 1-2 minutes if needed to get the center of the bread pieces more golden brown if desired.
- Slice and enjoy!
Notes
- Freshly grated cheese tends to melt a lot better and makes the bread ultra cheesy. Pre-shredded cheese can also be used.
