What KJ Loves about this Recipe

I love how this is a hassle-free cocktail that is loaded full of flavor. The fresh blueberries and mint leaves really bring this drink to life! Sip on this mojito all Spring and Summer long – it’s perfect for any occasion! Once the blueberries are muddled, they infuse the drink with their vibrant color and flavor. A perfect match to the white rum and mint leaves. Cheers!

What is a Mojito?

Traditionally, a mojito is a rum-based cocktail paired with fresh citrus, sugar and sparkling soda water.

With this Blueberry Mojito, we are turning up the fun a bit! The addition of fresh blueberries to this classic cocktail really helps set it apart. Plus, how can you go wrong with sweet, juicy blueberries? I also subbed honey for the sugar to help give it a little extra depth of sweetness.

Ingredients Needed

You’re only a few simple ingredients away from a perfectly delicious cocktail. Here’s what is needed:

  • Fresh blueberries – choose vibrant, bright juicy ones since they are the star of this recipe!
  • Mint leaves – same goes for the mint leaves as with the blueberries. Try to choose full-colored, green mint leaves with a few extra for garnish.
  • Honey – not a traditional mojito ingredient, but I love the natural sweetness it gives this cocktail! Agave could also be used.
  • White rum –  the alcohol that makes this cocktail what it is!
  • Lemon lime soda – I like to top off the glass with lemon-lime soda for an extra bubbly effect. Club soda or sparkling water can also be used.

How to Make a Raspberry Mint Mojito

First off, you want to choose a taller cocktail glass, such as something around 17oz. Then, the fun begins!

Start by putting your blueberries, mint leaves (you can lightly tear them if they are larger) and honey in the bottom of the glass. Use a muddler (such as one like this) to lightly smash and muddle the ingredients together. You want gently break up the blueberries and release the oils from the mint, but not completely blend them up together.

Then, you add in your ice.

Next, you add your liquids! Pour in about 2 shots of white rum and then top the glass off with lemon-lime soda or sparkling soda water (I prefer the sweetness from the lemon-lime soda). Gently give it a stir to combine the ingredients.

Finally, garnish with additional mint leaves, sliced limes and fresh blueberries!

What is Muddling?

Muddling is gently smashing and smooshing the ingredients together to release their flavors, natural oils and juices. The goal is not to completely blend the ingredients together, but to bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients.

Blueberry Mojitos are vibrant, fresh and bursting full of blueberry flavor! Mint leaves, honey and fresh blueberries are muddled together to create the delicious base of this fun cocktail recipe. White rum makes this a classic mojito with added bubbles from lemon lime soda. A perfectly sip-able cocktail!

Ingredients

Scale

For a 17oz Glass:

  • 1/3 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup crushed iced
  • 2 shots white rum
  • Lemon lime soda or sparkling water to top off the glass
  • Additional blueberries, mint leaves and lime slices for garnish if desired

For an 80oz pitcher:

  • 1 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup lightly torn mint leaves
  • 2 1/2 cups crushed ice
  • 3/4 cup white rum
  • Lemon-lime soda or sparkling soda water to top off the pitcher
  • Additional blueberries, mint leaves and lime slices for garnish if desired

Instructions

For both the glass and pitcher sizes:

  1. Combine the blueberries, honey and mint leaves in the bottom of your glass or pitcher. Use a muddler to gently muddle the ingredients together until the blueberries are slightly broken down with the mint leaves. Add in your ice.
  2. Pour the white rum over the top of the ice followed by the lemon-lime soda until the glass or pitcher is full. Give it a gentle stir to combine the ingredients. Garnish with the additional blueberries, mint leaves and lime slices if desired and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make it a mocktail (virgin cocktail) by omitting the white rum and adding in more soda.
  • If making the pitcher of mojitos in advance, wait to add the lemon lime soda until right before serving.
