Description

An apple crisp that is loaded with plump, juicy cinnamon sugar apples and topped with a sugar cookie-like topping. It’s a simple dessert that is destined to please a crowd! Spoon yourself a bowl of this warm Apple Crisp, top it off with a melting scoop of vanilla ice cream and dive into your apple crisp dreams


Ingredients

For the apple filling:

  • 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced into 1/4-inch thick slices
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

For the crisp topping:

  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

For the apple filling:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and toss to coat the apples completely. Pour into a 9×13 pan or large pie pan.

For the crisp topping:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together all of the ingredients until a cookie/crumbly topping has formed.
  2. Evenly top the apple filling with the crisp topping and bake for 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling and caramelized.
  3. Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Granny Smith apples are best for this recipe as their tartness helps balance out the sweetness of the crisp.
  • This Apple Crisp stores and re-heats very nicely!
