The Best Basic Banana Bread

The Best Basic Banana Bread is the classic banana bread recipe that we all love. This banana bread is decadent, moist and sweet from the ripe bananas. Before baking it away in the oven, I topped it off with crushed walnuts and sugar to create a crunchy, caramelized topping. If you have ripe bananas sitting on your countertop, this is the recipe that you need!

Ingredients Needed

When it comes to a good banana bread, the main thing you need is some good, ripe bananas! Ironic, right? Haha! Ripe bananas create a moist, scrumptious banana bread. Here’s some other ingredients you will need for this recipe:

  • Ripe bananas
  • Vegetable oil
  • Eggs
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Salt

Looking for other gluten options? You can try whole-wheat flour or gluten-free flour that is cup-for-cup to regular flour.

If you ask me, banana bread and vanilla are best friends. And this recipe does not lack on the vanilla side! It pairs perfectly with the sweet bananas and keeps you going back for another slice. Banana bread should be effortless and delicious. A simple recipe that fills your house up with warmth and deliciousness.

How to Customize this Recipe

There’s nothing I love more than some chocolate chips in my banana bread. Add them on in! Semi-sweet or dark chocolate work perfect for this recipe. You could even fold in additional nuts into the batter!

Don’t have walnuts on hand? Use pecans! I do this all the time!

How do you like to customize your banana bread? Tell me below! 🙂

Life Hack:

After the banana bread is baked and cooled completely, slice it and package each slice individually into small zip baggies for an easy grab-and-go breakfast in the morning! Packaging the slices this way also keeps them from drying out.

Description

The Best Basic Banana Bread is the classic banana bread recipe that we all love. This banana bread is decadent, moist and sweet from the ripe bananas. Before baking it away in the oven, I topped it off with crushed walnuts and sugar to create a crunchy, caramelized topping. If you have ripe bananas sitting on your countertop, this is the recipe that you need!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar, plus 2 teaspoons for topping
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, smash the bananas until smooth. Whisk in the vegetable oil, 1/2 cup of sugar, eggs and vanilla extract until combined.
  2. Fold in the flour, baking soda and salt until combined and batter has formed. Spray a standard bread pan with cooking spray and pour the banana bread batter into the pan. Evenly top with the chopped walnuts and remaining 2 teaspoons of sugar.
  3. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the banana bread is cooked all the way through. Let cool slightly in the pan before turning it out onto a cooling rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

Notes

  • This banana bread stores wonderfully! Let cool completely prior to storing in an air-tight container or bag. You can even slice it and then bag each slice individually for a great grab-and-go option.
  • Whole wheat flour or cup4cup gluten free flour can be used as well.
