An apple crisp that is loaded with plump, juicy cinnamon sugar apples and topped with a sugar cookie-like topping. It’s a simple dessert that is destined to please a crowd! Spoon yourself a bowl of this warm Apple Crisp, top it off with a melting scoop of vanilla ice cream and dive into your apple crisp dreams.

My dad loved this dessert so much that he stashed it away so no one else could get their hands on it! Even with family in town, this dessert wasn’t up for grabs for anyone else. That’s what I call a success!

Let’s Talk Apples

When picking out what apple to use for this Apple Crisp, the best one is the Granny Smith. It has a very tart flavor that perfectly balances out the sweetness of the crisp! If you are using a sweeter apple, I would recommend using a little less sugar so it’s not overly sweet.

How to Make Apple Crisp

A dessert that you can throw together in one pan and not touch it again? Count me in! All you need to do is follow a few simple steps to get this Apple Crisp on the table:

  • Peel and slice your apples.
  • Toss them together with the sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla.
  • Make the crumble in a small bowl.
  • Top the prepared apples evenly with the crumble.
  • Bake in the oven until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream and dig in!

How great is that? A simple dessert recipe that is sure to please a crowd, plus, it makes for great leftovers!

Description

An apple crisp that is loaded with plump, juicy cinnamon sugar apples and topped with a sugar cookie-like topping. It’s a simple dessert that is destined to please a crowd! Spoon yourself a bowl of this warm Apple Crisp, top it off with a melting scoop of vanilla ice cream and dive into your apple crisp dreams

Scale

Ingredients

For the apple filling:

  • 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced into 1/4-inch thick slices
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

For the crisp topping:

  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

For the apple filling:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and toss to coat the apples completely. Pour into a 9×13 pan or large pie pan.

For the crisp topping:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together all of the ingredients until a cookie/crumbly topping has formed.
  2. Evenly top the apple filling with the crisp topping and bake for 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling and caramelized.
  3. Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Granny Smith apples are best for this recipe as their tartness helps balance out the sweetness of the crisp.
  • This Apple Crisp stores and re-heats very nicely!
