The Monthly Scoop – July 2020

Welcome to another Monthly Scoop post – July 2020 edition! On July 31st, I lost my beloved horse, Motor. With this month’s Monthly Scoop post, I wanted to take the time to share stories, memories and photos of this sweet boy who gave me 20 amazing year’s worth of memories, fun and love. 

Writing this post is the smallest way to express how full this horse made my heart. He truly deserves the best, because he was the best. I know, I know, you may think that every girl thinks that about her horse, but Motor truly was the only one of his kind. 

His ears were almost as big as his heart, his spunky, loving demeanor never let you down and his small size never got in his way.

My parents gifted me with Motor when I was about 8 years old – he would’ve been about 12 years old at the time. Since then, there was no looking back. We were an inseparable pair. If you are a horse person or grew up riding horses, we all have that one horse that truly taught us how to ride. Motor was that horse for me. Riding him was effortless, yet exciting. He always kept you safe, yet you never knew what this spunky little guy was going to surprise you with. One of my favorite attributes of Motor that I often shared was that I love how he could have his firey, hyper little moments, but he always did it in his own space and bubble – he never did anything to harm you. He was always my best teammate whether I was on his back or by his side.

Riding Motor became the most normal thing to me. It was like we were synced – he knew every cue before I gave it to him. And when I did, all it took was a little shift of my heel and we were off.

When I first got Motor, I was still in the 10 & Under Walk/Trot division. He got me my very first Reserve National Champion in the Half Arabian Country English Pleasure Walk Trot 10 & Under.

From there, we graduated to the really fun stuff – Natvie Costume! If you aren’t familiar with the Arabian horse world, Native Costume is a class where the native heritage of the Arabian horse are featured – elaborate costumes that you would see shimmering in the desert. Not only were the costumes fun for this class, but the only gaits presented were the walk, canter and hand gallop. Boy oh boy did Mo LOVE to hand gallop!

Let me also just take a moment to say that Motor was Half Arabian/ Half Saddlebred, but he was quite small for his breed (Saddlebreds tend to be very large horses). This never got in his way. He galloped into that show ring and showed those big half Saddlebreds how it was done.

We ended up going National Champion in the Half Arabian Mounted Native Costume class and it was a night that I will never forget. It was a class where I just got to sit back, enjoy the ride and let Motor do what he loved best. A memory and blessing that I will cherish forever.

And he was there for everything else in between and after. We retired Motor from the show ring at the age of 18. From then on, he spent his days nibbling grass in the pasture, standing out enjoying Summer rainstorms and growing the best Winter coat to stand out in the snow in. I also never put a saddle on him since – I would just hop on bareback and go. Just this year (2020) we got to celebrate his 30th birthday!

Thank you for all the wonderful memories, love and years you gave me, my sweet Mo. You truly are the best horse I could ever have dreamed of. I will miss seeing your ears perk up and your cute little trot when I called you in from the pasture. I’m so thankful for all the pictures, videos, laughs, memories and stories I have to remember you by – I know you’re up there running with Jesus!
