Balsamic Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce

Balsamic Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce is a fun spin on a grilled steak! Flank steak is marinated in a balsamic sauce that gives it a rich, salty flavor, grilled to perfection and then top with a bright, zesty chimichurri sauce. Fire up the grill for a delicious dinner!

Flank steak is often looked over as it can be more of a tough cut of meat. But, marinating the flank steak in some balsamic, soy sauce, garlic and honey really helps tenderize it so that you get a juicy, salty, grilled bite of steak every time. Another upside of flank steak, they don’t take forever to cook! About 5-8 minutes on each side and you are good to go. I promise, you don’t need to stray away from the flank steak!

Now, let’s talk chimichurri. It’s a funny looking word, but a dang good sauce. It adds the perfect amount of brightness to the marinated steak! Plus, a chimichurri sauce is the perfect way to use up any fresh herbs you have laying around or growing like crazy in your garden. The sauce is vibrant and full-flavored. Doesn’t it also make the steak look pretty?

Whether you’re grilling up this steak for a weeknight dinner or a long weekend, it is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Description

Balsamic Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce is a fun spin on a grilled steak! Flank steak is marinated in a balsamic sauce that gives it a rich, salty flavor, grilled to perfection and then top with a bright, zesty chimichurri sauce. Fire up the grill for a delicious dinner!

Scale

Ingredients

For the steak:

  • 2 pound flank steak
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon honey

For the chimichurri sauce:

  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 3 teaspoons lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons of chopped garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

For the steak:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and honey. Place the steak in a large plastic container with sides or a 9×13 baking pan. Pour the marinade over the steak and let the steak marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour and up to 24 hours in advance. Set the steak out to come to room temperature slightly before grilling, about 20-30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the grill to a medium-high heat. Grill the steak for about 5-8 minutes on each side. Remove the steak from the grill and allow to rest for 10 minutes prior to slicing and serving.

For the chimichurri sauce:

  1. Combine all of the chimichurri ingredients into a food processor. Blend until smooth. Serve the chimichurri sauce with the grilled steak. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The steak can be marinated for 1 hour or up to 24 hours in advance. Allowing the steak to come to room temperature slightly will insure an even grill time on both sides.
  • The chimichurri sauce can be made up to 2 days in advance.
